Comprehensive cardiovascular assessment of children with chronic kidney disease using exercise cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a significantly increased cardiovascular (CV) risk. The reasons for this remain unclear. However, abnormalities of systolic and diastolic myocardial function, the vascular system and autonomic dysfunction have been implicated. Conventional investigations like resting echocardiography offer limited assessment of the CV system (CVS). Comprehensive evaluation of the CVS using advanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is feasible. Furthermore, exercise can unmask autonomic dysfunction not evident at rest. Hence, this study will use CMR to characterize CV response to isometric exercise in pediatric CKD.

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...
متن کاملAssessment of Organ Specific Iron Overload in Transfusion-dependent Thalassemia by Magnetic Resonance Imaging Techniques
The consequence of repeated blood transfusions in thalassemia is iron overload in different organs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a reliable, non-invasive and accurate method for iron detection in various tissues, hence the introduction of MRI has revolutionized the management of these patients and improved the life expectancy of them. Cardiac MRI T2* has a profound effect not only on est...
متن کاملA comprehensive characterization of myocardial and vascular phenotype in pediatric chronic kidney disease using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging
BACKGROUND Children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have increased cardiovascular mortality. Identifying high-risk children who may benefit from further therapeutic intervention is difficult as cardiovascular abnormalities are subtle. Although transthoracic echocardiography may be used to detect sub-clinical abnormalities, it has well-known problems with reproducibility that limit its ability...
متن کاملRelationship between Late Gadolinium Enhancement Extent in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Old Myocardial Infarction
Purpose: To assess the relationship between the severity of coronary arteries involvement and the extent and pattern of myocardial scars in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance of patients with history of remote myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: The Cardiac Magnetic Resonance images of sixty patients with history of remote ST segment or non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction were ...
متن کاملDesign and methods of the NiCK study: neurocognitive assessment and magnetic resonance imaging analysis of children and young adults with chronic kidney disease
BACKGROUND Chronic kidney disease is strongly linked to neurocognitive deficits in adults and children, but the pathophysiologic processes leading to these deficits remain poorly understood. The NiCK study (Neurocognitive Assessment and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Analysis of Children and Young Adults with Chronic Kidney Disease) seeks to address critical gaps in our understanding of the biologi...
